Job summary

Crafton Tull is seeking a Crew Chief to lead survey crews in Little Rock, AR. The role involves planning, directing field work, and ensuring precise measurements for construction and land projects.

This is a safety sensitive position with opportunities for long-term ownership through our employee‑owned culture. Qualified candidates will have 5 years of related experience or training, a valid driver license, and willingness to travel.

Qualifications

  • Five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver license with a clean driving record.
  • Some overnight travel may be required.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Researches previous survey evidence, maps, deeds, and records to obtain data for surveys.
  • Determines methods for establishing or reestablishing survey control.
  • Coordinates survey plans with client, project manager, and crew to meet needs efficiently.
  • Ensures all projects are completed on schedule and per policy and standards.
  • Keeps accurate notes, records, and sketches to describe and certify work performed.
  • Coordinates findings with clients and others concerned with the project.
  • Performs operator maintenance on survey equipment and company vehicle.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

CREW CHIEF SUMMARY:

Plans, organizes, and directs work of assigned survey party engaged in surveying earth's surface to determine precise location and measurements of points, elevations, lines, areas, and contours for construction, land division, titles, or other purposes by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

  • Researches previous survey evidence, maps, deeds, physical evidence, and other records to obtain data needed for surveys.
  • Determines methods and procedures for establishing or reestablishing survey control.
  • Coordinates survey plans with client, Survey Coordinator, project manager, civil authorities and assigned survey party to ensure all survey needs are met, client needs are met and crew/equipment is used efficiently.
  • Ensures all projects are completed according to plan schedules, company policy and production standards.
  • Keeps accurate notes, records, and sketches to describe and certify work performed.
  • Coordinates findings with Survey Coordinator, clients, and others concerned with project.
  • Performs operator maintenance and records keeping on assigned company vehicle and survey equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervises 1-3 employees in the survey crew. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalent. Five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: None required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Must have ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Must be able to identify, record, and complete survey calculations. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
