Job summary

Crafton Tull & Associates Inc. is seeking a Crew Chief to lead survey crews in field operations, establishing control, and documenting measurements for construction and land projects.

The role requires coordinating with clients, project managers, and authorities to ensure accuracy and timely delivery. The candidate should have a high school diploma or equivalent with at least five years of surveying experience, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to travel as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; five years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Valid driver license with clean driving record; some overnight travel.
• Ability to read maps, plans, and deeds; understand survey methods and measurements.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and direct work of assigned survey party in the field.
• Coordinate survey plans with client, project manager, and authorities to ensure survey needs are met.
• Maintain accurate notes, records, and sketches of survey work.
• Oversee equipment maintenance and data recording.
• Ensure projects meet schedules, policy, and production standards.
• Supervise 1–3 employees and provide training as needed.

CREW CHIEF SUMMARY:

Plans, organizes, and directs work of assigned survey party engaged in surveying earth's surface to determine precise location and measurements of points, elevations, lines, areas, and contours for construction, land division, titles, or other purposes by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

• Researches previous survey evidence, maps, deeds, physical evidence, and other records to obtain data needed for surveys.
• Determines methods and procedures for establishing or reestablishing survey control.
• Coordinates survey plans with client, Survey Coordinator, project manager, civil authorities and assigned survey party to ensure all survey needs are met, client needs are met and crew/equipment is used efficiently.
• Ensures all projects are completed according to plan schedules, company policy and production standards.
• Keeps accurate notes, records, and sketches to describe and certify work performed.
• Coordinates findings with Survey Coordinator, clients, and others concerned with project.
• Performs operator maintenance and records keeping on assigned company vehicle and survey equipment.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervises 1-3 employees in the survey crew. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Must have ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Must be able to identify, record, and complete survey calculations. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

Must possess a valid driver license and have a clean driving record. Some overnight travel.
