Primoris Heavy Civil is currently searching for an experience Survey CAD Technician for our Belton, TX Division. You'll work closely with engineers, surveyors, and field teams to ensure accuracy and efficiency in construction layout and GPS-guided operations. Job Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced CAD Technician with a background in heavy civil construction, specializing in roadways, bridges, and highway infrastructure. This position plays a critical role in supporting field operations and project delivery by producing accurate 3D models, digital terrain models (DTMs), and machine control files using Trimble software platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, modify, and maintain 3D models, site plans, and CAD drawings for use in Trimble-based machine control systems (e.g., Trimble Business Center).
  • Modifying existing designs and correcting errors, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations
  • Collaborate with project engineers, surveyors, and field supervisors to ensure models meet construction specifications and project requirements.
  • Perform takeoffs and quantity verifications using digital modeling tools.
  • Assist with setting up and maintaining Trimble GNSS base stations, rovers, and data collectors in the field as needed.
  • Import and export data between CAD platforms (AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, etc.) and Trimble software.
  • Provide troubleshooting support for GPS machine control and site positioning systems.
  • Ensure adherence to project deadlines, CAD standards, and QA/QC protocols.

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Drafting, Surveying, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • 2+ years of experience in a similar CAD or modeling role within heavy civil construction.
  • Proficiency in Trimble Business Center (TBC), AutoCAD Civil 3D, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong understanding of civil construction practices, plans, grading, utilities, and alignment geometry.
  • Experience working with GPS/GNSS-based machine control and site positioning technology (Trimble Earthworks, SiteWorks, etc.).
  • Familiarity with DOT standards and specifications for roadway and bridge construction (preferred).
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a cross-functional team.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with point cloud processing and drone survey data integration.
  • Knowledge of U.S. state DOT CAD standards.
  • Familiarity with construction scheduling and field reporting software (e.g., Bluebeam, Procore, HCSS, etc.).

Physical Requirements:

  • Must comply with company’s drug and alcohol abuse policy.
  • Must be able to pass physical examination, pre-employment if necessary, and as required by the company.
  • Able to climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding, stairways, etc.
  • Stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or work at elevated heights as well as in confined spaces (towers, vessels, excavations, etc.).
  • Able to carry 50 lbs. of tool and/or materials. It is recommended to get assistance to lift items over 50 lbs. Check with your project supervisor or project safety director.
  • Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to work extended hours on your feet on uneven surfaces (dirt, concrete, asphalt, mud, gravel, etc.)
  • Must be clean shaven and able to work while wearing a respirator and other personal protective equipment, when required.

    • Potential exposure to chemical substances
