BluePearl Pet Hospital in Northfield, IL is seeking a Veterinary Technician for our Surgery department. This full-time role offers advancement opportunities in emergency and specialty medicine within a supportive team.

The technician will assist with anesthesia, monitoring, IV access, and post-operative care, contributing to high-quality patient outcomes and client communication.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Assist in patient procedures with anesthesia and analgesia planning.

• Place IV catheters, perform intubations, and use anesthesia equipment.
• Record vital signs and report abnormalities to the doctor.
• Manage patient flow from pre-op to recovery and discharge.

Position: Veterinary Technician with our Surgery department.

Work Schedule: F ull-Time

Pay Range: $23.20 - $43.70/hour

*This pay band is dependent on local veterinary licensing, experience, and advancement through our competency assessment tool.

As a Surgery Veterinary Technician, you will:

• Assist in patient procedures using knowledge of anesthesia and analgesia related protocols and procedures, including formulating anesthetic plans tailored to individual patient needs.
• Monitor anesthesia, trouble shoot anesthetic complications, and make appropriate interventions.
• Intravenous catheter placement, endotracheal intubation, and anesthetic equipment use and maintenance.
• Perform physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
• Understand normal vital parameters and alerts doctor when abnormal.
• Set up intravenous fluids and CRI's.
• Continuous expansion of knowledge and skillset: advanced anesthetic skills including epidurals, difficult airway intubation, and critical case management.
• Operate all brands of intravenous fluid pumps and can troubleshoot errors.
• Comfortable with medical math.
• Ability to take patient through entire procedure from start to finish (pre-op, monitoring, post-op, and recovery)
• Manage appointments, obtain histories, medical record keeping, invoicing, patient discharges, etc.
• Disconnect and connect patients from intravenous fluids aseptically.
• Monitor patient response to fluid therapy including signs of overload.
