Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Northfield, IL is seeking an experienced Emergency Triage Veterinary Technician/Advanced Patient Care Associate. The role runs Sunday–Tuesday, 7am–7pm with on-call and holiday requirements.

Pay ranges from $23.20 to $43.70 per hour, with competitive shift differentials. Responsibilities include anesthesia induction/monitoring, triage, radiography, vital signs interpretation, CPR, venous access, feeding tubes, and mentoring teammates.

Qualifications

• Active veterinary technician license or eligibility in the state.
• Experience in emergency triage and anesthesia induction/monitoring.
• Ability to interpret vitals and radiographs.

Responsibilities

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients.
• Triage emergency cases and obtain vitals.
• Perform digital radiography with proper technique.
• Interpret vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes.
• Identify patients at risk and initiate CPR.
• Administer medications with correct routes/durations.
• Phlebotomy and IV catheter placement.
• Place feeding tubes and central lines.
• Mentor and train other staff.
• Provide compassionate client communication.

• Weekday Night (Mon-Fri 6p to 8a): $4.00
• Weekend Day (Sat-Sun 8a to 6p): $4.00
• Weekend Night (Sat-Sun 6p to 8a): $5.50

As an Emergency Veterinary Technician, you will:

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
• Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.
• H ave a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.
• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
• Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
• Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Are proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers.
• Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.
