Job Description

Assist the surgical team during operative procedures by preparing sterile equipment, passing instruments, sponges, and sutures, and supporting other related duties such as inventory management, sterilization, equipment preparation, patient transfer, and instrument turnover. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications

Intermediate Level

• High school diploma or GED
• Certification or completion of an accredited surgical technology training program (or pending accreditation)
• Highly motivated and organized
• Good interpersonal and team skills

Senior Level

• High school diploma or GED
• Completion of an accredited surgical technologist program
• Minimum of 2 years experience as a surgical technologist

Both Levels

Physical Requirements

This position involves moderate standing and walking, as well as lifting, positioning, pushing, and transferring patients.

Experience

• Experience scrubbing in spine, neurosurgery, otolaryngology, oral-maxillofacial, or thoracic surgeries
• Experience as a surgical technologist
• Ability to scrub all services

Work Schedule

Day/Night shifts, 36-40 hours per week, with varying start times, including on-call, weekend, and holiday duties.

Additional Information

This role is covered under the collective bargaining agreement with U-M and UMMAP, which governs wages, benefits, hours, and employment conditions.
