Job summary

The Surgical Technologist at Mayo Clinic will provide safe and efficient perioperative care under RN supervision and in collaboration with the surgeon. You will scrub, select and maintain instrumentation, and ensure sterile technique across procedures.

Qualifications include graduation from an accredited surgical technology program, NBSTSA certification within one year, and current BLS. Prior OR experience is preferred; some locations may require flexibility with shifts.

Responsibilities

• Functions in the scrub role, selecting, preparing, and maintaining instrumentation, equipment and supplies.
• Maintains sterile/aseptic technique and adapts to unpredictable perioperative situations as part of the surgical team.

Responsibilities

The Surgical Technologist provides safe and efficient care to the surgical patient under the supervision of the registered nurse (RN) and in collaboration with the surgeon. The Surgical Technologist functions primarily in the scrub role and is responsible for selecting, preparing, and maintaining instrumentation, equipment, and supplies. The Surgical Technologist possesses knowledge in the application of sterile and aseptic technique and is able to adapt to unpredictable situations within the perioperative setting. The Surgical Technologist utilizes knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, surgical instrumentation and technology as member of the surgical team.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited or military surgical technology program.
• Certification in Surgical Technology from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) required within one year of hire date and maintained thereafter.
• Maintains current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers through the AHA or Red Cross.
• Experience in Retina, Sports Med, ENT and Urology preferred.
• At least one year of operating room experience is preferred.

Surgical Technologists hired at the following locations prior to the identified dates, are not required to have a Surgical Technology certification through NBSTSA:

• Mayo Clinic in Arizona hires prior to 11/20/2024.

Licensure/Certification Required

• Current BLS certification required upon hire.
• Certification through NBSTSA required within one year of hire date.
