Job summary

Rochester Regional Health is seeking a Surgical Technologist to join the Operating Room team at Unity Hospital in Rochester, NY. This role focuses on scrubbing during procedures, obtaining and preparing instruments, and maintaining sterile technique.

Hours are 40 per week, Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM. The position requires graduation from an accredited Surgical Technology program with certification within 12 months of graduation.

Qualifications

• Graduates from a CAAHEP- or ABHES-accredited Surgical Technology program must obtain certification through a nationally accredited credentialing organization within 12 months of graduation.
• Graduates from an accredited school of practical nursing may qualify under the appropriate clauses.
• New Graduates: official transcript or registrar-issued verification within 90 days of start date.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a minimum of 15 Continuing Medical Education hours annually.
• Prepare and check instruments, equipment, and supplies for surgical procedures.
• Set up and maintain a sterile field, following strict aseptic techniques.
• Assist with patient draping and ensure the surgical team is properly attired.
• Pass instruments and supplies to the surgeon during procedures.
• Perform accurate sponge and sharp counts with the circulating nurse.
• Clean and prepare instruments for sterilization.
• Support specialty surgical services and stock OR rooms as needed.
• Prepare sterile dressings and assist with post-operative care.
• Help orient new staff and contribute to unit goals and objectives.
• May handle medications, sharps, and syringes on the sterile field.
