Job summary

Cleveland Clinic Weston Hospital is seeking a Surgical Technologist for the CCFSR Operating Room to support a fast-paced perioperative team. This regular PRN role supports day/evening/night/weekend shifts with on-call requirements, providing hands-on experience in a top Florida hospital.

The role involves assisting surgeons and RNs, maintaining sterile technique, and ensuring accurate instrument counts and specimen handling in a dynamic operative setting.

Qualifications

• Completion of a Surgical Technology program accredited through CAAHEP or ABHES
• Military surgical technology program completion is acceptable
• Certification as Surgical Technologist CST or TS-C (or equivalent) is required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through AHA or Red Cross

Responsibilities

• Provide quality patient care in perioperative, intraoperative and postoperative phases
• Follow perioperative practices per AORN guidelines
• Review daily assignments and surgeon preferences
• Identify and prioritize patient care needs
• Plan care based on procedure, standards and MD preferences
• Assemble, check and open sterile packs and equipment
• Maintain aseptic technique and safety in the department
• Ensure proper patient positioning, skin preparation and counts
• Maintain sterile field and assist with draping
• Report any breaks in sterile technique
• Prepare and edit surgeon's preference lists for quality care
• Communicate during procedures and staff changes
• Ensure appropriate levels and return of instruments and supplies
• Collect specimens and identify origin for pathology
• Assist with retraction and suction as directed
• Handle biohazard material per universal precautions
• Keep accurate counts of sutures, sharps and instruments
• Return instrumentation to decontamination with proper documentation
