Job Summary
As a Lead Surgical Technologist, you’ll take on a vital leadership role in the operating room, guiding your team and ensuring patients receive the safest, most advanced surgical care. Responsibilities
- Demonstrate knowledge of applying surgical gloves using aseptic technique and maintaining a sterile field.
- Prepare for surgery by pulling the appropriate supplies and instruments for the procedure.
- Understand and recognize the different surgical instruments and their applications.
- Apply appropriate knowledge of anatomy and physiology to prepare and assist in surgical procedures.
- Maintain a safe sterile field, including:
- Positioning sharps correctly
- Labeling all medications on the sterile field
- Understanding electrocautery and other devices that generate heat to prevent possible fires in the OR
- Participating in a timeout with the rest of the surgical team to maintain patient safety
- Appropriately set up for a surgical procedure and follow protocol for counting supplies/instruments to ensure no foreign object is left inside the patient.
- Understand the principles of and competently assist a surgeon during a procedure, possessing adequate knowledge of the procedure itself.
- Differentiate sutures and their applications.
- Close a surgical site (under physician supervision) with appropriate suture.
- Demonstrate a teamwork approach in the care of a patient during the perioperative phase.
Qualifications
- Graduate of a Surgical Technology program or military equivalent training in the Surgical Technologist role.
- Certification in Surgical Technology.
- Current BCLS certification from the American Heart Association.
- At least 2 years of Surgical Technologist experience.
- High School Graduate or GED.
