The University of Virginia seeks a Surgical Technologist to support surgical teams by preparing instruments and maintaining sterile environments. This role involves leadership, mentorship for junior staff, and requires experience alongside relevant certification. Candidates should have a strong background and be committed to professional development.
Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to gathering needed supplies and instrumentation for surgical procedures according to the surgeon preference card. Maintains the sterile field and anticipating the needs of the surgical team. Is constantly vigilant to the adherence of aseptic technique by all team members. Is a mentor and go to person for other staff.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:High School Diploma or equivalent. Graduated froman CAHEEP or ABHES accredited by CAHEEP/AHEBS OR NCCT Approved program.
Experience: Three years of experience required.
Licensure: BLS required. Certified to practice as a Surgical Technologist by NBSTSA (The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting). Current Registration with Virginia Board of Medicine required at the time of hire.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Job requires standing for prolonged periods; Repetitive motion: passing instruments, lifting heavy instrument sets. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull >50 - 100lbs. May be exposed to cold, radiation, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
