Arkansas Children’s Hospital is seeking a Surgical Technologist IV to assist in preparation, setup, and completion of surgical procedures, ensuring sterile technique and patient safety across ages. The role emphasizes instrument anticipation, counts, gowning, and team coordination in the OR.

Under surgeon and RN supervision, you will mentor teammates, lead sterile process improvements, and support efficient case turnover while maintaining high standards of care.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree or equivalent from a two-year college program or technical school or nursing diploma.
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification.
• 6 years of experience in a related field.

Responsabilités

• Expertly prepares the operating room ensuring instrumentation, supplies, and equipment for cases across services.
• Performs surgical counts with the RN prior to the procedure.
• Ensures majority of sterile field is set up before patient transfer to the OR.
• Anticipates instrumentation needs for upcoming and following cases to aid turnover.
• Gowns and gloving for surgeons and staff; maintains sterile field; improves sharps safety.
• Maintains and counts sponges, blades, needles, and instruments; responds to requests promptly.
• Communicates changes in surgeon preferences and to the RN on implants, meds, and specimens.
• Assists with final counts and breakdown of sterile field; proper disposal of sharps.
• Cleans, prepares, and transports instruments for terminal sterilization; supports reprocessing.
• Assists with room turnover; restocks supplies and ensures OR readiness for next case.
• Communicates with OR when instruments are needed for following cases.
• Promotes safety and reports safety concerns promptly to RN or Team Leader.
• Leads in mentoring, coaching, or teaching other healthcare professionals and students.

The Surgical Technologist IV possesses expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic techniques. The Surgical Technologist IV demonstrated a deep understanding of surgical technology practice to provide a safe and effective care for the patients in surgery and commonly participates in procedures for patients from newborn to adult with conditions requiring surgical intervention. Expertly prepares the operating room ensuring the availability of appropriate instrumentation, supplies, and equipment for assigned cases in all services. Applies critical thinking to improve the process of room preparation and flow.2. Performs surgical counts with RN prior to the procedure.3. Expertly ensures that the majority of the sterile field has been set-up prior to the transfer of the patient into the operating room.4. Uses expert knowledge and experience to accurately anticipate the instrumentation needs for the upcoming and to-follow cases aiding in case turnover time.5. Uses knowledge of sterile techniques to expertly gown and glove surgeons, assistants and self, passing instruments, and draping sterile field and maintaining sterile field throughout the procedure. Seeks to improve sharps safety measures.6. Maintains sponges, blades, needles, and instruments in an orderly fashion and actively counts at appropriate times and responds promptly to request by the RN or surgeon to count.7. Communicates with team in regard to changes in surgeon's preferences and to the RN on implants, medications, and surgical specimens.8. At the close of the procedure, assists the RN with final surgical counts and breaking down of the sterile field ensuring the appropriate disposal of sharps.9. Cleans, prepares, and transports instruments for terminal sterilization. Assists with instrument reprocessing tasks and inspects instruments for damage or repair needs reportling promptly to the Service Leader and/or the SPD Supervisor.10. Assists other team members with cleaning and room turnover consistently ensuring the operating room is ready for the following case. Ensures unused supplies and equipment have been returned to storage areas and room supplies restocked.11. Communicates with operating room when instruments are needed ofr the following cases.12. Promotes safety and promptly reports any safety concerns to the RN or Team Leader.13. Actively participates in improvement of patient care and the work environment through varying improvement activities.14.
