Medical Center Health System invites applications for a Surgical Technologist Intern. The role supports the sterile team and assists in patient preparation for surgeries under supervision, following AORN standards

Qualifications include enrollment in a CAAHEP-accredited Surgical Technology program with a minimum 3.0 GPA and current BLS certification at hire. This internship provides hands-on training in the Surgical Service Areas within our Odessa facility.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in an accredited Surgical Technology program (CAAHEP).
• GPA of 3.0 or higher required to qualify for internship.
• Intern will work under supervision of a graduate from an accredited program.

Responsibilities

• Assist in nursing care and prep of surgical patients in Surgical Service Areas.
• Support sterile team by donning gown and gloves and maintaining a sterile field.
• Issue instruments to surgeons according to AORN standards.

Position Summary

The Surgical Technologist Intern assists in the nursing care and preparation of surgical patients in the Surgical Service Areas. He/she functions as a member of the sterile team in donning gown and gloves, creating and maintaining a sterile field and issuing instruments to surgeons utilizing AORN standards of care.

Education

Intern must be attending a CAAHEP-accredited program for Surgical Technology and maintain a 3.0 GPA in order to qualify for internship.

Intern will work under the supervision of a graduate of an accredited School of Surgical Technology (according to Texas Surgical Technologist Law Sec 259.002)

Intern must be consistently work towards graduation from a CAAHEP-accredited program while employed with immediate notification of dismissal or withdrawal from the CAAHEP-accredited program.

Training And Experience

Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association upon hire or transfer to department.
