Job summary

Mass General Brigham's Newton-Wellesley Hospital is seeking a Surgical Technician to assist in the operating room. You will set up equipment, help prepare patients, pass instruments, and maintain sterile processing standards during procedures.

Under supervision, you may provide day-to-day guidance to junior staff and participate in a fast-paced perioperative environment on 12-hour night shifts, 7p–7:30a, with weekend/holiday rotations at Newton-Wellesley Hospital.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• CST certification preferred; NBSTSA credential preferred.
• BLS certification preferred.
• 3–5 years operating room experience; scrub in multiple specialties; leadership experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Sets up operating room and equipment.
• Prepares patients for surgery and transports them.
• Passes instruments to surgeons and assistants; helps count sponges and needles.
• Monitors OR conditions and supports the patient care team.

Job Summary

36hr Nights 3x12hr shifts 7p-7:30a, weekend and holiday rotationsSummaryUnder supervision, assists in operations. May help set up the operating room, prepare and transport patients for surgery, adjust lights and equipment, pass instruments and other supplies to surgeons and surgeons' assistants, hold retractors, cut sutures, and help count sponges, needles, supplies, and instruments. May provide day-to-day guidance/direction to more junior staff.

Essential Functions

• Participates in time-out procedures.
• Attainment of extra supplies and equipment as needed.
• Sets up equipment independently.
• Participates as an active member of the Patient Care Team.
• Monitor and continually assess operating room conditions, including patient and surgical team needs.
• Prepare patients for surgery, including positioning patients on the operating table and covering them with sterile surgical drapes to prevent exposure.
• Knowledge of SPD Sterile Room.

• Basic Life Support [BLS] - Generic - HR Only preferred
• Certified Surgical Technologist [CST] - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) preferred
• Medical Technician [New Hampshire License] - New Hampshire Board of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy preferred

Experience

Experience at time of hire: Three (3) years of diversified experience in the operating/procedure room 3-5 years required and Experience scrubbing in multiple specialties; five (5) years of experience preferred, and one (1) year of experience working and leading teams 3-5 years preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of SPD Sterile Room.
• Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced clinical environment.
• Advanced knowledge of sterile processing procedures and policies.
• Familiarity with medical terminology and departmental supply items is required.
