Responsibilities
- The role of the OR Tech III is to assist the OR team in the care of patients, equipment and supplies
- The OR Tech III provides care for adolescent patients between 12 to 17 years of age; adult patients between 18 to 64 years; and geriatric patients 65 years and older.
- The surgical technologist in the first scrub role handles the instruments, supplies and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure.
- The OR Tech III understands the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon.
- The OR Tech III has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field.
- When the OR Tech III is in the second scrub role they assist the surgeon and/or surgical assistant during the operative procedure by carrying out tasks including sponging, suctioning, cutting suture, holding retractors and manipulating the endoscopic camera.
Qualifications
- Completion of a Surgical Technician program or Surgical Technician training with evidence of experience in the past three years or a licensed healthcare provider with 1 year operating room experience.
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) from National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) required upon hire. Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association or American Red Cross required upon hire.
- Two years prior experience in a similar size facility with similar services provided. Must be competent to perform as lead in all the following specialty areas: Robotic, Total Joints, Neuro/Spine, Burn and Vascular Surgery.
