Job summary

UNC Johnston Health is seeking a Surgical Technologist I to support the operating room team in procedures across Orthopedics, General, GYN, Robotics, Neuro, ENT, and more. You will assist surgeons and nurses, maintain sterile technique, and ensure patient safety in a fast-paced OR environment.

This full-time role requires knowledge of instrumentation, aseptic practices, and the ability to respond to emergencies. Competitive pay and an incentive program are offered by UNC Health.

Responsibilities

• Performs technical skill duties in all operating room specialty service areas
• Provides proper maintenance, assembly, handling, and sterilization techniques of specialty instrumentation
• Follows aseptic technique and reports discrepancies
• Performs surgical counts and reports discrepancies
• Labels drugs and solutions; monitors quantities used
• Assists in preparation/labeling of surgical specimens
• Plans and sets up instruments, supplies, and drapes for procedures
• Assists the surgeon with anatomy and procedural considerations
• Assists in selecting cases and instrument needs
• Adapts scrubbing procedures for emergencies and communicates with the team
• Inventories, receives, and stores supplies
• Reports defective instruments/equipment and restocks rooms
• Assists RN during intraoperative phase of nursing care
• Operates complex equipment in the OR and troubleshoots
• Mentors trainees and serves as preceptor when needed
