Job summary

Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Festus, MO is seeking a Surgical Technologist to support the operating room team. You will ensure sterile instrument provision, assist surgeons and nurses, and help maintain patient safety and confidentiality.

The role requires a High-School Diploma or GED, BLS certification, and English proficiency. Experience as a Surgical Tech is preferred, and a certificate or associate degree in Surgical Technology is welcomed. New hires may receive a $5,000 sign-on bonus.

Qualifications

• Education: High-School Diploma or GED is required.
• Licensure: Non-licensed/certified candidates may be considered.
• Experience: 24-Hour-Opportunity locations may consider non-experienced perioperative candidates.
• Certifications: American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
• Must understand English both written and spoken and perform job functions safely with/without accommodation.
• Preferred Experience: 1 year experience as a Surgical Tech.
• Preferred Education: Postsecondary certificate or associate degree in Surgical Technology from an accredited program.
• Preferred Licensure - Certification: Surgical Technology Certification preferred.

Job Description

The Operating Room is a high-acuity, fast-paced surgical environment dedicated to delivering safe, efficient, and compassionate care across a wide range of surgical specialties. As an integral member of the perioperative team, the Surgical Technologist plays a critical role in supporting surgeons, anesthesia providers, and nursing staff to ensure optimal surgical outcomes and an exceptional patient experience.

Surgical Technologists are responsible for preparing the operating room for procedures, ensuring all instruments, equipment, and supplies are sterile, functional, and available. They maintain strict adherence to sterile technique, anticipate the needs of the surgical team, and provide support throughout the procedure. Responsibilities also include assembling and organizing sterile fields, handling instruments and specimens, assisting with room turnover, and contributing to safe patient positioning and care throughout the operative process.
