Job Summary
Geisinger is proud to offer a Surgical Technologist position with benefits including a $7500 hiring incentive for eligible candidates, a starting salary of $24.75 with increased rates for experienced individuals, up to $5/hr shift differential for evening, night, and weekend shifts, and up to $40,000 in financial support to become a nurse.
Job Duties
- Assist surgeons with procedures related to patient care during surgery.
- Coordinate treatments with other disciplines.
- Provide basic patient assistance.
- Connect patients to clinical equipment as needed.
- Practice aseptic techniques during surgical preparation, including scrubbing, gowning, gloving, draping, and setting up instruments.
- Participate in surgical time, out, and operating room briefings according to protocol.
- Verify the correct surgical site with the circulating nurse and surgeon before incision.
- Maintain an accurate account of supplies, including sponges, needles, and instruments.
- Verify counts at the end of procedures.
- Prepare, identify, and verify surgical specimens.
- Dispose of linens, needles, and sharps properly.
- Assess wounds and apply or change sterile dressings as instructed.
- Maintain and document universal precautions.
- Initiate emergency procedures when necessary.
- Participate in patient admission and discharge processes.
- Perform billing for services and equipment as appropriate.
- Participate in on-call rotations.
- Serve as a preceptor for students in the surgical unit.
- Adhere to policies, protocols, and standards of care.
- Perform quality control monitoring.
- Perform additional duties such as specimen collection, set up for pleure-vac and traction, patient transport, and post-mortem care.
- Ensure all medications and solutions are labeled under RN supervision.
Work Environment & Responsibilities
Work is primarily performed in a clinical setting. Employees are responsible for meeting job obligations and complying with organizational policies. Additional department-specific skills may be required.

Position Details
- Full-time, day/evening shifts (36 hours/week)
- Three 12-hour shifts from 7 am to 7:30 pm
- Every other weekend and holiday rotation required
Qualifications
- Graduate from a Specialty Training Program (Required)
- Minimum of 1 year related work experience (Preferred)
- Certified Surgical Technologist - NBSTSA (Required)
