Position Summary

Your Next Case: Leading the Future of Surgical Technology Education! Pima Medical Institute is seeking a visionary Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) to step into the role of Program Director at our Seattle campus.


This executive educational role allows you to transition your operating room expertise into high-impact academic leadership. Rather than leaving your specialty behind, you will expand your influence—leading faculty, maintaining accreditation standards, shaping curriculum, and mentoring future surgical technologists who will excel in Washington State's healthcare community.


Key Responsibilities

Program Leadership & Faculty Management:



  • Team Leadership: Supervise, mentor, and evaluate Surgical Technology faculty and staff; prepare teaching assignments and promote instructional innovation.

  • Faculty Development: Organize professional development, educational workshops, and in-services for didactic and clinical faculty.

  • Strategic Planning: Establish and implement long-term departmental goals that elevate program quality and reputation.


Curriculum & Accreditation Oversight:



  • Curriculum Design: Develop, evaluate, and continuously refine course content, learning materials, and textbook selections to meet evolving OR standards.

  • Accreditation Compliance: Maintain strict compliance with CAAHEP, ABHES, and institutional accreditation standards.

  • Instructional Delivery: Teach classroom lectures or lab sessions as needed to support faculty coverage.


Administration & Fiscal Operations:



  • Budget Operations: Oversee department expenditures, resource allocation, and budget tracking to ensure fiscal sustainability.

  • Campus Alignment: Collaborate with campus leadership and regional clinical partners to support student externships and graduate job placements.


Student Success & Academic Standards:



  • Retention & Mentorship: Monitor student academic progress, implement targeted retention strategies, and maintain an 80%+ success rate across all courses.

  • Performance Assessment: Assess student competencies against course objectives and establish Academic Success Plans when needed.

  • Grade Management: Maintain precise student records and submit final grades according to institutional policies.


Minimum Qualifications


  • Education: Bachelor's degree from an academic institution accredited by an agency recognized by the USDE or CHEA.

  • Program Graduate: Graduation from a CAAHEP- or ABHES-accredited Surgical Technology program (or recognized military training equivalent).

  • Required Certification: Active Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential through an NCCA-accredited national certifying board (e. g., NBSTSA).

  • Professional Experience:

    • Minimum of three (3) years of operating room experience in the scrub role within the last five (5) years OR three (3) years of teaching experience in Surgical Technology.



  • Continuing Education: Documented coursework or training in educational methodologies, surgical technology standards, credentialing, and academic administration.

  • Licensure: Active Washington state registration/licensure as required by local, state, or federal laws.

  • Technical Proficiency: Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel,
