Job summary

McLaren Health Care seeks a skilled Surgical Technologist to support procedures at our Ambulatory Surgery Center in Mount Clemens, MI. You will prepare patients, rooms and equipment, maintain sterile technique and assist surgeons during operations.

Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, completion of a surgical technology program, NBSTSA certification and BLS. Prior OR or ASC experience is preferred and you will work full-time, 6:30 AM to 5:00 PM, with no on-call or weekend

Qualifications

• Completion of a surgical technology training program.
• NBSTSA certification as a surgical technologist.
• BLS certification required before start date and valid for at least 60 days beyond start date.

Responsibilities

• Assemble supplies and equipment for scheduled procedures according to physician’s preference.
• Inspect equipment for proper working condition.
• Arrange instruments according to given procedure.
• Assist in preparing patients for surgery, including transport.
• Maintain availability of instruments and supplies to avoid delays.
• Pass sterile surgical equipment to surgeons during procedures.
• Ensure sterile field is maintained in the operating room.
• Report breaks in sterile technique and take action per policy.
• Ensure compliance with health care regulations including HIPAA and OSHA.
• Assist in stocking and storing supplies as directed.

Position Summary:

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

• Assembles supplies and equipment for scheduled procedures according to physician’s preference
• Inspects equipment for proper working condition
• Arranges instruments according to given procedure
• Assists in the preparation of patients for surgical procedure, including transport
• Maintains availability of instruments and supplies to avoid delays
• Passes sterile surgical equipment to surgeons during surgical procedure
• Ensures the preparation and maintenance of the sterile field in operating room
• Reports observed or suspected breaks in sterile technique and takes action, according to policy
• Ensures compliance with all health care regulations, including HIPAA and OSHA
• Assists in maintaining adequate supplies in the operating room
• Assists in storing and stocking supplies as directed
• Performs other related job duties as requested.

Required:

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Completion of a surgical technology training program
• Certification as a surgical technologist from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).
• BLS certification from American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross (ARC), or Canadian equivalent, is required before start date and valid at least 60 days beyond start date.

Preferred:

• Previous operating room experience
• Ambulatory Surgical Center experience
