Job summary

McLaren Health Care in Michigan seeks a Surgical Technologist to assist surgeons in the operating room, prepare rooms and equipment, and maintain sterile fields throughout procedures. The role requires completion of an accredited surgical technology program and BLS certification.

The technician will support pre-operative care, pass instruments during surgery, and help with specimen labeling and wound dressing. Full-time schedule with day shifts and on-call duties are included.

Qualifications

• Accredited surgical technology program completion.
• BLS certification.
• Minimum one month of job-related experience or training.
• HIPAA and OSHA compliance are required.

Responsibilities

• Prepares operating rooms, ensuring equipment and supplies are disinfected, assembled and ready.
• Maintains sterile field and supports aseptic technique.
• Assists during procedures by passing instruments and assisting surgeons as needed.
• Prepares patient skin, positions patient, monitors vitals and supports pre-operative care.
• Transports patient post-procedure and cleans and restocks OR for next case.
• Performs clerical duties and supports administrative staff as needed.

Job description

Position Summary: Assists surgeons and other medical professionals in operating rooms and similar environments. Prepares patients, rooms and equipment for pending surgical procedures. Assists during those procedures as part of the surgical team.

Shift Times

7am - 3:30pm x2 & 7am-7:30pm x2

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Prepares operating rooms, ensuring that all equipment and supplies needed for the procedure are properly disinfected, assembled and in working order.
• Ensures the preparation and maintenance of the sterile field in operating room.
• Provides supportive care during the pre-operative phase.
• Prepares patient's skin for surgery; moves and positions patients in the operating room; monitors vital signs and observes status.
• During surgery performs scrub functions including passing sterile surgical equipment to surgeons, may cut sutures, tracking items used/performing instrument counts, collecting and labeling specimens taken and helping dress a patient's wounds. May transport patient after procedure.
• Ensures that operating rooms are clean, sterile and stocked prior to next procedure.
• Performs clerical duties such as ordering supplies, maintaining logs, pulling up and/or entering patient information, doing inventory and supporting the administrative and clerical staff as needed.
• Delivers compassionate support, attention, and assistance to patients and families.
• Ensures compliance with all health care regulations, including HIPAA and OSHA.
• Maintains safe and clean working environment and protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control, hazardous waste and other policies and protocols.
• Performs other related duties as required and directed.

Qualifications

Required

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of an accredited surgical technology training program.
• One month of job-related experience and/or training.
• BLS certification.

Preferred

• One year of experience in a medical setting.
