As a Certified Surgical Technologist, you will collaborate with surgeons, gastroenterologists, anesthesiologists, and nurses to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Your role supports our team at Carilion Clinic, a community‑based health system renowned for award‑winning patient care and advanced research.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the healthcare team to assure quality patient care.
• Establish and maintain a sterile field and ensure a sterile environment for the surgical team.
• Safely pass instruments to clinicians during procedures.
• Participate in surgical counts (sponges, needles, and instruments) per policy.
• Communicate with surgeons, gastroenterologists, anesthesiologists, other staff, and patients to facilitate continuity of care.
• Follow policies, procedures, regulatory standards, and patient safety goals.
• Participate in the nursing process for patients of all ages served.
• Engage in unit educational activities.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent required.
• Successfully completed an accredited surgical technologist training program and holds a current credential as a certified surgical technologist from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or its successor.
• OR completed relevant training during service as a member of any branch of the armed forces of the United States.
• Certification in Surgical Technology required.
• LPN licensure required for grandfathered employees.
• Maintain registration with the VA Department of Health Professions.
• Knowledge of instrumentations and the principles of growth and development across the lifespan.
• Ability to interpret patient information and tailor care to specific age‑related needs.
