Westlake Medical Campus offers medical care close to home for routine or urgent health issues as well as outpatient surgery at the Fairview Hospital Ambulatory Surgery Center. This ASC is a friendly, safe, and competent facility in which to receive quality outpatient surgical procedures by board-certified general surgeons. Our facility has four operating suites, which encompass a broad range of surgical services, and we are proud of our workplace and newly remodeled environment. In this role as a Surgical Technologist, you will perform a variety of tasks, such as checking supplies and equipment, setting up sterile tables, passing instruments to the surgeon and sterilizing instruments after procedures. This position offers a unique way to gain hands-on experience in an operative environment while making a lasting difference in the lives of patients and caregivers every day. Ultimately, surgery could not be possible without your support.

**A caregiver in this position works days from 5:45AM - 'closing', which can vary anywhere from 3:30PM-5:00PM.**

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

+ Perform scrub functions and assist in circulating functions under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN).

+ Set up the sterile table and ensure appropriate supplies, drugs and equipment are available.

+ Assists RN in counting all sponges, instruments, etc. at appropriate times during surgery.

+ Assist in gowning and gloving surgical team members and draping patients.

+ Ensure aseptic condition is maintained by the scrubbed surgical team through the procedure.

+ Participate in the intraoperative 'timeout.'

+ Collect, identify and label specimens removed during surgical procedures and give specimens to circulator for disposition.

+ Coordinate surgical and clinical schedules and studies for section.

+ Answer and perform patient phone calls and relay information to/from the provider.

+ Assist with marketing and practice development.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

+ Successful completion of a Surgical Technology Program accredited through CCAAHEP or ABHES OR Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or Certified Tech in Surgery (TS-C) through the National Center for Competency Training (NCCT) OR completion of a military Surgical Technology Program

+ Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)

**Physical Requirements:**

+ Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.

+ Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.

+ Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 25 pounds and ability to push, pull, and navigate supply carts weighing > than 75 pounds periodically.

+ Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

+ Requires working under stressful conditions of working irregular hours.

+ Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.

+ Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

+ Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work
