The Surgical Technologist 3 prepares and maintains medical equipment for surgical procedures. Follows hospital regulations and industry procedures to tend to patients during pre-operation procedures. Performs pre-operation preparations on the patient's skin, body, and medical equipment. May be required to transport patients to and from the operating room. Relies on education, experience, and judgment to accomplish job responsibilities. Works under general supervision with expected creativity and autonomy.

Responsibilities

1. Surgical Case Preparation: Ensure proper equipment, instruments, and supplies are available for procedures and specialty areas. Maintain a sterile setup and follow sterile techniques. Anticipate and respond effectively to procedural needs. Assist circulating RN with patient and procedure preparation. Follow sterilization protocols and perform accurate instrument counts. Check and maintain surgical instruments.
2. Ability to independently handle complex procedures and equipment. Demonstrate expertise in surgical instrumentation across specialties. Maintain knowledge of surgical equipment and advanced instrumentation.
3. Quality & Patient Safety: Provide age-specific supplies and equipment. Ensure patient transport safety, assist with positioning, and follow AORN guidelines. Respond promptly to emergencies and trauma cases.
4. Collaboration & Teamwork: Anticipate surgeon needs, participate in departmental activities, and assist with room turnovers. Respond quickly to overhead pages, handle clerical duties, and volunteer for additional shifts or on-call duties. Serve as a mentor and participate in staff education and policy development.
5. Other Duties: Complete assigned tasks, develop and present in-services, mentor students, and assist in policy revisions.

Minimum Qualifications

• Five years of experience as a Surgical Tech or a graduate of a Surgical Tech training program (1-year experience substitutes).
• Subject Matter Expert in a surgical subspecialty, with leadership roles in education and performance improvement.
• BLS Certification & CST required.
