Job description

Full Time, Evenings, 40 HR Evening 2:45pm-11:15pm

SCOPE OF POSITION:

Working under the direction of the RN, the Surgical Technologist functions in the OR as a surgical scrub performing a variety of technical activities following established methods and procedures.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Assist the surgeon or interventionist as a scrub technologist or assistant, providing instrumentation and supplies as needed.
  2. Demonstrate expertise in scrubbing and assisting surgeons. Prepare cases using preference cards and information from heads of service.
  3. Scrub according to OR policy and AORN standards. Report and address breaks in technique immediately.
  4. Anticipate physician's needs related to specific procedures and patient populations.
  5. Assist team members to meet department goals.
  6. Support the RN in patient care, offer suggestions, and collaborate on care plans.
  7. Maintain awareness of room assignments; participate in setup and cleanup; manage supplies, instruments, and equipment; care for specimens and cultures; ensure patient and team safety; perform sponge, instrument, and sharp counts according to OR policy; practice sterile technique.
  8. Promote teamwork and effective working relationships.
  9. Manage time efficiently.
  10. Engage in educational and professional development.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Graduate from an accredited surgical technology program.
  2. Obtain surgical technologist certification from a recognized certifying body within 18 months of completing the program.
  3. Maintain patient confidentiality.
  4. Stand for prolonged periods.
  5. Visual acuity for tiny objects (e.g., needles, sutures, prostheses).
  6. Manual dexterity for assembling complex equipment.
  7. Work in a time-sensitive environment, including exposure to blood-borne pathogens.
  8. Physical ability to lift, pull, push, stand, and walk.
  9. Exposure to environmental hazards such as anesthetic gases, radiation, chemicals, toxins, electrical hazards, and loud noises.
  10. BLS certification required.
  11. Basic computer skills and ability to access relevant programs.
  12. Perform automated functions within job responsibilities.
  13. 2nd and 3rd shift positions require at least 1 year of acute care trauma OR OR experience or ability to cover trauma procedures.
