Job Summary

Performs a variety of radiographic examinations and related procedures to produce quality images/films for diagnostic evaluations. Prepares patients for exams using radiographic/fluoroscopic equipment and ancillary devices. Complies with safety regulations and participates in complex procedures involving contrast media and catheter insertions. Assists in the Emergency Department during evening, afternoon, and weekend shifts.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
  1. Performs radiographic exams, prepares rooms, and ensures equipment and supplies are ready. Transports patients as needed.
  2. Positions patients, lifts and stabilizes incapacitated patients, and uses immobilization devices.
  3. Adjusts equipment parameters, activates machinery, and captures images of various body parts.
  4. Processes films and transports portable equipment for bedside imaging.
  5. Assists with complex examinations and procedures involving contrast media and invasive techniques.
  6. Determines contrast media based on prescribed criteria.
  7. Maintains radiation safety by minimizing exposure and using shielding.
  8. Explains procedures, provides instructions, and reassures patients. Maintains equipment and work area cleanliness.
  9. Prepares sterile trays, maintains sterile techniques, and performs preventative maintenance.
  10. Handles emergency procedures, calls in for emergencies, and exercises charge responsibilities when needed.
  11. Provides direction to staff, reviews film quality, and ensures quality control.
  12. Completes documentation, maintains records, and performs clerical tasks as needed.
  13. Attends meetings and in-service trainings, and assists with patient scheduling and inventory.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma and 2-year accredited Radiologic Technology program.
  • Registered through ARRT and licensed in Connecticut; advanced certification in CT or Mammography preferred.
  • Mandatory training: orientation, fire/safety, infection control, CPR.
  • Registered or registry eligible.
  • Physical ability to stand, lift, and manipulate equipment; able to handle radiation and chemical exposures.
  • Excellent communication, reading, mathematical, organizational, and decision-making skills.
Additional Information

Work environment involves radiation exposure, patient contact, chemical fumes, and variable lighting/temperature. Must be able to perform physical tasks and communicate effectively. Responsibilities may extend beyond normal duties as needed.
