Job summary

Saint Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, part of Trinity Health Of New England, invites qualified Nursing Support staff to join the daytime team. You will work under the supervision of a registered nurse, scrubbing and assisting with circulating tasks, and help maintain a sterile environment.

This role accepts unc ertified, certified, unlicensed, or licensed personnel; requires OR Technology program graduate and NBSTSA exam completion or eligibility, plus BLS.

Qualifications

• Education: Graduate of an accredited school of Operating Room Technology.
• Licensure: NBSTSA certification; Registry Eligible must pass within 18 months from date of hire.
• Certification: BLS required.

Position Purpose

The Nursing Support (NS) colleague (uncertified, certified, unlicensed, or licensed) provides safe, quality health care services & / or assistance to patients under the supervision & direction of a registered nurse or other designated health care professional in accordance with level of experience, education, policies & procedures.

What you will do

• Scrubbing and assisting with circulating tasks.

• Arranging instruments on sterile field.

• Maintaining an aseptic controlled environment.

• Assisting with pre-operative review of charts; pre-operative checklist.

Working Conditions

• Perform activities that require standing / walking with the ability to vary / adjust physical position or activity.

• Lift a maximum of 30 pounds unassisted.

• Use of upper & lower extremities, engage in bending / stooping / reaching & pushing / pulling.

• Work indoors (subject to travel requirements) under temperature-controlled & well-lit conditions.

• Encounter worksites (e.g., patient homes) or travel to worksites that may have variable internal & external environmental conditions.

• Perform work that involves physical efforts (e.g., transporting, moving, positioning & / or ambulating patients).

Minimum Qualifications

• Education: Graduate of an accredited school of Operating Room Technology

• Licensure: Successful completion of national exam for certification by NBSTSA. Registry Eligible must pass the certification exam within 18 months from date of hire.

• Certification: BLS required.
