Job summary

Howard Head Sports Medicine seeks a Surgical Technologist to join our Main OR team in a PRN/pool capacity in Vail, CO. You will assist during surgeries, maintain sterile technique, and support patient care under RN supervision.

Required CST program or Colorado license and BLS certification, plus English proficiency. This role offers growth in a busy orthopedic setting with access to advanced surgical technology in a world-class mountain health system.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a CST program or licensure as CST in Colorado.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Must possess English reading, writing and speaking proficiency.
  • PRN pool schedule availability.

Responsibilities

  • Assist during surgical procedures, maintaining sterile field and providing instrumentation as needed.
  • Participate in unit activities ensuring high quality patient care under RN supervision.
  • Maintain and check sterile packaging, equipment function and sterility.
  • Monitor sterile field for contamination and support corrective actions.
  • Assist with patient transports, room turnover and room preparation.
  • Prepare and clean instruments for terminal sterilization.
  • Demonstrate professional behavior and ongoing learning with new technologies.

About the opportunity:

Assists during surgical procedures by ensuring and maintaining the integrity of a sterile surgical field and providing instrumentation as needed to the surgical team. Participates in unit activities that assure high levels of quality related to patient care. Functions under the direction of a Registered Nurse.

What you will do:

  • Possesses expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique and combines the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation of tools and technologies in performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. Functions with working knowledge of AORN standards.
  • Maintains and checks all items for proper packaging, processing, moisture, seal and packaging integrity, sterile indicator if present, and expiration dates. Ensures that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly and the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety.
  • Monitors sterile field for events that may contaminate, interfere, or alter field and initiates or notifies of need for corrective action under supervision.
  • Working towards competency or competent with Tier 1 surgical cases
  • Maintains flexibility while contributing to the individualized, ongoing delivery of care within the scope of practice.
  • Models effective, timely communication with the perioperative team with full participation in Time Out Process to include Briefings and Debriefings.
  • Assists team in patient transports, room turnovers, and room preparation.
  • Models professional behavior to include maintaining currency in new technologies and procedures, including instrumentation and equipment.
  • Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization.
  • Role models the principals of a Just Culture and Organizational Values.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. Must be HIPAA compliant.

What you will need:

Experience:

  • Completion of a Certified Surgical Technologist program and/or Licensed Surgical Technologist

License(s):

  • Licensed as a Surgical Technologist in the state of Colorado required.

Certification(s):

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required.

Computer / Typing:

  • Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days, the computers skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job‑specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.

Must have working knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English.
