Job summary

Baystate Health is seeking a Surgical Technologist to join the Surgical Services team at Baystate Noble Hospital in Westfield, Massachusetts. You will work closely with surgeons, physicians, nurses, and other members of the operating room team to support safe, efficient, and high-quality surgical care.

The Surgical Technologist maintains the sterile field, prepares and handles instruments and equipment, anticipates the needs of the team, and supports patients throughout invasive procedures.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program or equivalent experience.
  • Prior OR experience may qualify based on tenure.
  • Associate degree or higher required; certification may be needed per facility policy.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain sterile field and prepare/handle instruments and equipment.
  • Anticipate surgeon and team needs based on procedure and plan.
  • Ensure proper labeling and handling of medications on the sterile field.
  • Maintain patient safety through sharps and temperature control.
  • Document procedures and operate within scope of practice.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, nurses, and other OR staff.

Baystate Health is seeking a Surgical Technologist to join the Surgical Services team at Baystate Noble Hospital in Westfield, Massachusetts. In this role, you will work closely with surgeons, physicians, nurses, and other members of the operating room team to support safe, efficient, and high-quality surgical care. The Surgical Technologist plays an essential role in the surgical environment by maintaining the sterile field, preparing and handling surgical instruments and equipment, anticipating the needs of the surgical team, and supporting patients throughout invasive surgical, therapeutic, and diagnostic procedures. This position offers the opportunity to build and maintain expertise across a variety of surgical specialties while working as an integral member of a collaborative clinical team committed to patient safety and excellent outcomes.

The Surgical Technologist Will
  • Work directly with surgeons and physicians to facilitate the safe and effective performance of invasive surgical, therapeutic, and diagnostic procedures.
  • Apply expert knowledge of sterile and aseptic techniques to maintain a safe surgical environment.
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and surgical team by understanding the procedure, instrumentation, and surgical process.
  • Prepare, manage, inspect, and safely operate designated surgical equipment and instruments according to manufacturer guidelines and departmental policies.
  • Participate as an integral member of the operating room team, demonstrating awareness of the patient's history, allergies, and intraoperative plan of care.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and proper handling of medications and pharmacological agents placed on the sterile field, including mixtures, doses, and labeling.
  • Support patient safety through appropriate specimen handling and labeling, sharps safety practices, and intraoperative temperature regulation.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and the knowledge and skills necessary to perform assigned responsibilities within the Surgical Technologist's scope of practice.

Required Skills
  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program recognized by the appropriate allied health education accrediting organization, or completion of a structured Surgical Technology training program with an equivalent professional background.
  • Candidates who began working as a Surgical Technologist in a surgical facility prior to July 1, 2013 may qualify based on prior experience.
  • Candidates entering the field on or after July 1, 2013 must have an Associate's degree in Surgical Technology.
  • New hires without prior experience working in a surgical facility before July 1, 2013, must meet applicable certification requirements.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of sterile and aseptic techniques, human anatomy, surgical procedures, instrumentation, and surgical technologies.
  • Ability to function proficiently across a variety of surgical specialties and maintain competency within the assigned scope of practice.

The compensation range(s) in the table below represent the base salaries for all positions at a given grade across the health system. Typicaly, a new hire can expect a starting salary somewhere in the lower part of the range. Actual salaries may vary by position and will be determined based on the candidate's relevant experience. No employee will be paid below the minimum of the range.

  • Minimum - Midpoint - Maximum $31.62 - $39.47 - $50.06
  • Pay ranges are listed as hourly for non-exempt employees and based on assumed full time commitment for exempt employees.
