Job summary

Adventist Health Columbia Gorge in The Dalles, Oregon is seeking a Surgical Technician to support the operating room team. You will prepare cases, establish sterile fields, and pass instruments to surgeons during procedures.

Responsibilities include verifying supplies, counts with the RN, and maintaining aseptic technique while ensuring patient safety and efficient case flow. Prior OR experience preferred; CPR/BLS certification required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED (preferred).
  • Accredited surgical technology program is required.
  • Associate degree or equivalent is preferred.
  • Scrub technician experience is preferred.
  • Operating room experience or training course is preferred.

Job description

In the heart of The Dalles, Oregon, Adventist Health Columbia Gorge has served the Columbia River Gorge community since 1901. Job Summary:

Assists the surgical team in the preparation of surgical procedures in the operating room. Prepares surgical cases by creating and maintaining a sterile field, retracting and passing instruments, supplies and medications to surgeons during cases. Performs a variety of technical skills, including the maintenance of supplies. This position is represented by OFNHP.

Job Requirements:
  • Education and Work Experience:High School Education/GED or equivalent: Preferred
  • Accredited surgical technology program: Required
  • Associate's/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Preferred
  • Scrub technician experience: Preferred
  • Operating room experience and/or training course: Preferred
Licenses/Certifications:
  • Surgery Technician certification: Required
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy: Required
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification: Preferred
Facility Specific License/Certifications:
  • AHA-BLS or ARC-BLS or AHA-CPR or ARC-CPR: Required
Essential Functions:

Prepares for each surgical case by accurately checking required supplies and equipment prior to case. Assembles appropriate supplies/equipment prior to operative procedures. Reviews equipment inventory for specialty as assigned. Sets up operative instrumentation/sterile field for expedient retrieval/utilization. Collects data on assigned surgical cases by the unit based Performance Standards of Care. Cleans equipment and facilities as necessary. Performs housekeeping duties as requested. Transports patients according to unit schedules and priorities. Provides clerical duties. Completes instrument, sponge, needle and blade counts with the Registered Nurse (RN) according to established standards. Sets up/maintains neat and orderly sterile field demonstrating careful attention to aseptic technique. Labels solutions according to established standards. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
