Job summary

Adventist Health Columbia Gorge is seeking a Surgical Technologist to assist the surgical team in The Dalles, OR. You will prepare sterile fields, pass instruments and medications to surgeons, and help maintain a clean and efficient operating room.

Required CPR/BLS certification and Surgery Technician certification; CNA preferred. The role involves equipment handling, data collection, and adherence to aseptic technique under RN supervision.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School Education/GED or equivalent; preferred accredited surgical technology program.
  • Certification: Surgery Technician certification required; CPR/BLS certification required; CNA certification preferred.
  • Licenses/Certifications: AHA-BLS or ARC-BLS or AHA-CPR or ARC-CPR required.
  • Operating room experience or training course: Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Prepare for each surgical case by accurately checking required supplies and equipment prior to case.
  • Assemble appropriate supplies/equipment prior to operative procedures and set up sterile field.
  • Pass instruments, supplies and medications to surgeons during cases.
  • Complete instrument, sponge, needle and blade counts with RN according to standards.
  • Transport patients and perform clerical duties as needed.
  • Perform housekeeping duties and maintain neat, orderly sterile field.

JOB DESCRIPTION

In the heart of The Dalles, Oregon, Adventist Health Columbia Gorge has served the Columbia River Gorge community since 1901. Job Summary

Assists the surgical team in the preparation of surgical procedures in the operating room. Prepares surgical cases by creating and maintaining a sterile field, retracting and passing instruments, supplies and medications to surgeons during cases. Performs a variety of technical skills, including the maintenance of supplies. This position is represented by OFNHP.

Job Requirements

Education and Work Experience: High School Education/GED or equivalent: Preferred Accredited surgical technology program: Required Associate's/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Preferred Scrub technician experience: Preferred Operating room experience and/or training course: Preferred

Licenses/Certifications: Surgery Technician certification: Required Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy: Required Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification: Preferred

Facility Specific License/Certifications: AHA-BLS or ARC-BLS or AHA-CPR or ARC-CPR: Required

Essential Functions

Prepares for each surgical case by accurately checking required supplies and equipment prior to case. Assembles appropriate supplies/equipment prior to operative procedures. Reviews equipment inventory for specialty as assigned. Sets up operative instrumentation/sterile field for expedient retrieval/utilization. Collects data on assigned surgical cases by the unit based Performance Standards of Care. Cleans equipment and facilities as necessary. Performs housekeeping duties as requested. Transports patients according to unit schedules and priorities. Provides clerical duties. Completes instrument, sponge, needle and blade counts with the Registered Nurse (RN) according to established standards. Sets up/maintains neat and orderly sterile field demonstrating careful attention to aseptic technique. Labels solutions according to established standards. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
