Job summary

Southcoast Health in New Bedford, MA seeks a Surgical Technologist to support the operating room team during intra-operative procedures, providing aseptic, safe, and properly equipped environments.

You will be responsible for OR preparation, instrument supply and assembly, maintaining sterile fields, hands-off instruments, and initiating counts throughout surgeries.

The position also involves on-call duties as needed and requires certification and ongoing compliance with hospital policies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Graduation from an approved Surgical Technology Program is required.
• CST credential to be earned within 12 months of graduation or within 6 months of hire if more than 12 months from graduation.
• Certification in Basic Life Support is required.
• One year of related work experience is preferred.
• Must be fully vaccinated against seasonal influenza and COVID-19 or be eligible for an exemption with signing a statement.

Responsibilities

• Provide assistance to the surgical team during the intra-operative phase, ensuring aseptic conditions and a sterile, safe, properly equipped environment.
• Perform OR preparation, instrument supply and assembly, and maintenance of sterile fields; manage instrument counts.
• Hands off instruments and initiate counts throughout procedures.
• Perform Surgical Technologist duties including on-call duties as needed.

Hours: 32 flex 40hrs

Shift: Day/Eve Shift 11:00am -7:30pm. Weeknight, Weekend and Holiday Rotation.

Location: Main Operating Room - St. Luke's Hospital - New Bedford, MA

**Available to regular status employees who are scheduled to work a minimum of 20 hours.

Perform various duties including but not limited to: provide assistance to surgical team during the intra-operative phase, provide aseptic, safe, appropriately equipped and functional surgical environment. Responsible for OR preparation, instrument supply and assembly, maintenance of sterile fields, hands off instruments and initiation of counts throughout procedures. Perform Surgical Technologist duties including on-call duties as need or required.

Qualifications

• Equal to completion of 4 years of high school plus additional specialized courses or training is required.
• Graduation from an approved Surgical Technology Program is required.
• Certified Surgical Technologist credential administered by a nationally recognized surgical technologist certifying body accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies and recognized by the American College of Surgeons and the Association of Surgical Technologist within 12 months of graduation from program or within 6 months of hire if greater than 12 months from graduation.
• Certification in Basic Life Support is required.
• One (1) year of related work experience is preferred.
• Must be fully vaccinated against seasonal Influenza and the COVID 19 virus or to be exempt from the requirement for medical or personal reasons by signing a statement certifying you are choosing to be exempt from vaccination once hired.
