Job summary

Allina Health in Hastings, MN is seeking a Surgical Technologist to join our surgical services team. You’ll assist the surgical team by preparing the OR, identifying supplies, and maintaining a sterile field during procedures while working under RN supervision.

This 8-hour day/evening shift includes on-call weekend rotation and the possibility of call after orientation. A vocational/technical Surgical Technology program or Allina Health Apprentice program is required.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program or completion of Allina Health Surgical Technologist Apprentice program.
• 1+ year of Surgical Technologist experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare the OR and set up for procedures.
• Identify supplies, instruments and equipment needed.
• Maintain a safe environment and use aseptic technique.
• Assist the physician in the scrub role during procedures and maintain a sterile field.
• Take call after orientation as required.

Key Position Details:

• On Call Weekend Rotation

Job Description:
Participates in providing care to patients undergoing surgical intervention, including identifying, assembling and facilitating use of surgical instruments, equipment and supplies to assist the surgical team. Tasks are supervised by Registered Nurse and delegated by the surgeon. May also perform in the sterile processing function as needed. Will eventually be required to take call after orientation.

Principle Responsibilities

• Participates as a surgical team member Prepares the OR and sets up for procedures.
• Identifies supplies, instruments and equipment needed.
• Maintains safe environment for patient and other staff, using electrical equipment and instruments correctly.
• Follows aseptic technique standards of practice.
• Complies with regulatory requirements for point of use care of instruments.
• Handles medications and specimens following policies/procedures.
• Assists the physician in the scrub role during surgical procedures Maintains a sterile field.
• Anticipates needs for instruments, equipment and other supplies.
• Performs sponge, sharps and other counts accurately.
• Accounts for all instruments and items on the field.
• Communicates to physician and circulator when needs arise during the surgical intervention.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Vocational or Technical Training graduate of accredited Surgical Technology program
• OR
• Successful completion of the Surgical Technologist Apprentice program at Allina Health

Preferred Qualifications

• 1+ year of Surgical Technologist experience

Licenses/Certifications

• Must meet at least ONE of the requirements below:
  • Certified Surgical Technologist from The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting within 1 year of hire
  • Tech in Surgery TS-C (NCCT) Certification within 1 year of hire
• Must meet at least ONE of the requirements below:
  • Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association
  • Current BLS certification from the American Red Cross
  • Allina in-house BLS training (within 30 days of hire)

Physical Demands

• Medium Work:
• Lifting weight up to 50 lbs. occasionally, up to 25 lbs. frequently

Pay Range

Pay Range: $32.92 to $45.12 per hour

The pay described reflects the base hiring pay range. Your starting rate would depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, your experience, education, and the union agreement (if applicable). Shift, weekend and/or other differentials may be available to increase your pay rate for certain shifts or work.
