Job summary

Allina Health is seeking a Surgical Technologist to join its operating room team. You will participate in preparing the OR, identifying and arranging instruments, and assisting the surgical team during procedures in a fast-paced environment.

The role requires an accredited Surgical Technology program graduate, 1+ year of experience, and certification or BLS within set timelines. On-call duties and a 10-hour shift pattern apply.

Qualifications

• Associate’s or Vocational degree from an accredited Surgical Technology program.
• 1+ year of Surgical Technologist experience.
• Certified Surgical Technologist or TS-C certification within 1 year of hire.
• Current BLS certification from AHA, ARC, or in-house training within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Participates as part of the surgical team, preparing the OR and setting up for procedures.
• Identifies supplies, instruments and equipment needed; maintains a sterile field and aseptic technique.
• Assists physician in scrub role during procedures and communicates needs during surgery.
• May perform sterile processing and may be required to take call after orientation.
• Other duties as assigned.

Meet our Care Team Members: Surgical Technologist

Job Description

Participates in providing care to patients undergoing surgical intervention, including identifying, assembling and facilitating use of surgical instruments, equipment and supplies to assist the surgical team. Tasks are supervised by Registered Nurse and delegated by the surgeon. May also perform in the sterile processing function as needed. Will eventually be required to take call after orientation.

Principle Responsibilities

• Participates as a surgical team member
  • Prepares the OR and sets up for procedures.
  • Identifies supplies, instruments and equipment needed.
  • Maintains safe environment for patient and other staff, using electrical equipment and instruments correctly.
  • Follows aseptic technique standards of practice.
  • Complies with regulatory requirements for point of use care of instruments.
  • Handles medications and specimens following policies/procedures.
• Assists the physician in the scrub role during surgical procedures
  • Maintains a sterile field.
  • Anticipates needs for instruments, equipment and other supplies.
  • Performs sponge, sharps and other counts accurately.
  • Accounts for all instruments and items on the field.
  • Communicates to physician and circulator when needs arise during the surgical intervention.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Associate’s or Vocational degree graduate of accredited Surgical Technology program

Preferred Qualifications

• 1+ year of Surgical Technologist experience

Licenses/Certifications

• Must meet at least ONE of the requirements below:
  • Certified Surgical Technologist from The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting within 1 year of hire
  • Tech in Surgery TS-C (NCCT) Certification within 1 year of hire
• Must meet at least ONE of the requirements below:
  • Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association
  • Current BLS certification from the American Red Cross
  • Allina in-house BLS training (within 30 days of hire)

Physical Demands

• Medium Work:
• Lifting weight up to 50 lbs. occasionally, up to 25 lbs. frequently

Pay Range

Pay Range: $32.92 to $45.12 per hour

The pay described reflects the base hiring pay range. Your starting rate would depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, your experience, education, and the union agreement (if applicable). Shift, weekend and/or other differentials may be available to increase your pay rate for certain shifts or work.
