Job Summary

Under direct supervision, performs duties in the OR to assist the surgical team, following established policies and procedures.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

• Scrubs on all types of procedures; handles surgical instruments, sutures, sponges; anticipates surgeon needs; maintains aseptic technique; assists with patient monitoring.
• Prepares for surgeries by ensuring equipment and supplies are ready.
• Maintains cleanliness and safety in the OR; sterilizes equipment; restocks supplies; maintains surgical instruments.
• Assists in patient transportation, verifies identity, helps with positioning.
• May assist as second circulator; participates in department education and policy development; evaluates new surgical products.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an accredited surgical technician program or equivalent training/experience.
• Certification by the Association of Surgical Technologists is highly desirable.
• One to two years of surgical technician experience preferred.
