Qualifications

• Graduate of Surgical Technologist Program or LPN/on-the-job training.
• Oxygen Certification required within 6 months of hire; update every 2 years.
• BLS required.
• Certification in Surgical Technology if eligible to take exam.
• SGNA Associates Program within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates knowledge of anatomy, physiology, surgical procedures, cleaning, sterilization and aseptic techniques.
• Prepares instruments and equipment for procedures and for high-level disinfection or terminal sterilization.
• Anticipates surgeon needs while maintaining sterile technique throughout the procedure.
• Engages in ongoing education and training to maintain competency.
• Ensures sterile field and readiness of supplies and equipment for invasive procedures.
• Performs instrument and supply counts with the circulator per policy.
• Assists in room turnover and prepares room for next patient.
• Participates in the Universal Protocol for patient safety.
