Job summary

Grove Place Surgery Center is seeking a Surgical Technician to support the surgeon, the circulating RN, and the anesthesiologist in the operating room. The technician will scrub, set up and break down procedures, and assist with instruments and supplies.

Requirements include a high school diploma, graduation from an accredited school of surgical technology, and BLS certification. One year of OR experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Graduate of an accredited school of surgical technology required.
• BLS certification as required by the ASC policy.

Responsibilities

• Ensure proper supplies, equipment, and instruments are ready for use.
• Restock operating rooms to meet par levels.
• Assist other operating rooms for coverage.
• Knowledge of surgeon preferences, procedures, instrumentation, and equipment.
• Prepare cases for the next day.
• May operate sterilizer, lights, suction, and other equipment.
• Ensure patient, procedure, and site are correct and sterile.
• Follow exposure control plans for bloodborne and airborne pathogens.
• Report breaks in sterile technique and act per policy.
• Perform hand scrub according to policy and procedure.
• Arrange instruments and supplies for the procedure.
• Maintain instrument integrity and count sponges/sharps.
• Assist in gowning and draping of patient.
• Pass instruments to surgeon and/or assistant as needed.
• Communicate needs to circulators for efficient progress.
• Prepare and preserve specimens.
• Verify medication name/strength with circulator and label on field.
• Clean and disinfect tables, surfaces, and floors.
• May help transport patients and restock the OR.

Education
