Job summary

Emerson Hospital in Concord, MA is seeking a Surgical Technologist for the night shift (7:00 pm–7:30 am). This role focuses on scrub and circulator support, maintaining sterile OR conditions, and serving as a subject matter expert for a surgical specialty.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; NBSTSA certification preferred/required by MA law
• 2+ years of surgical technologist experience preferred
• NBSTSA Certification in Surgical Technology required unless grandfathered by MA law
• BLS certification within 6 months of hire
• Strong communication, teamwork and adaptability; excellent organization and confidentiality

Responsibilities

• Prepare OR by gathering instruments, supplies and equipment per surgeon preference cards
• Maintain sterile fields and aseptic technique throughout procedures
• Pass instruments, sutures and supplies to surgeon promptly and accurately
• Assist in patient positioning and support the anesthesia team
• Set up medications on the sterile field per policy and surgeon instructions
• Perform sponge, needle and instrument counts for safety
• Prepare specimens and contaminated instruments for processing
• Assist in room turnover and case preparation for the next procedure
• Support patient rights, dignity and safety at every step

About the Role

Step into the heart of patient care and surgical excellence. As a Surgical Technologist, you’ll be a vital member of our perioperative team, working alongside surgeons, nurses, and anesthesiologists to ensure every procedure runs smoothly and safely. Your focus will be on the scrub person and assist circulator roles, preparing the operating room, anticipating the surgeon’s needs, and maintaining a sterile environment. You’ll also have the opportunity to serve as a subject matter expert for a surgical specialty and precept new scrub personnel making this role both hands-on and leadership-driven.

What You’ll Do

• Prepare the OR for procedures by gathering instruments, supplies, and equipment based on surgeon preference cards.
• Set up and maintain sterile fields, ensuring integrity and adherence to aseptic technique.
• Anticipate the surgeon’s needs, passing instruments, sutures, and supplies efficiently and accurately.
• Assist in positioning patients and supporting the anesthesia team.
• Handle medication setup on the sterile field according to policy and surgeon instructions.
• Perform safety protocols such as sponge, needle, and instrument counts.
• Properly prepare specimens and contaminated instrumentation for processing.
• Assist in room turnover, including cleaning and preparation for the next case.
• Support patient rights, dignity, and safety at every step.

What You Bring

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• At least 2 years of surgical technologist experience preferred.
• NBSTSA Certification in Surgical Technology (required unless grandfathered per Massachusetts law).
• BLS certification within 6 months of hire.
• Strong communication, teamwork, and adaptability skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to anticipate needs in a fast-paced environment.
• Computer proficiency and a commitment to confidentiality.
