Job summary

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a Surgical Technician to support a wide range of surgical procedures across multiple subspecialties.

The ST will assist the surgeon and OR team, prepare sterile fields, and verify site, procedure, and patient details to ensure patient safety and asepsis. The role includes training residents and students, maintaining infection control, and coordinating with the RN/Anesthesia Team.

Qualifications

• English language proficiency requirement and ability to communicate in English.
• One year of specialized experience at GS-6 level or equivalent.
• Education substitutions allowed: one full year of graduate education or related coursework.
• Preferred completion of Surgical Technologist program but not mandatory.

Responsibilities

• Direct Hire Authority in use for this occupation.
• Handle instruments, supplies and equipment during various surgical procedures.
• Set up sterile field and ensure correct site, procedure, laterality and patient.
• Assist the surgeon and OR team, verify implants and maintain aseptic technique.
• Train residents and students in OR procedures and sterile technique.
• Maintain a safe, clean work environment and support patient education.
