Job summary

Barbour Orthopaedics is seeking a Surgical Technician to join the ASC Team in Atlanta. The role supports safe, efficient surgical procedures under supervision, ensuring sterile technique and intraoperative support to deliver optimal patient outcomes.

Responsibilities include room setup, instrument handling, aseptic technique, patient positioning, surgical counts, and adherence to OSHA and infection prevention standards, with opportunities for ongoing education and quality initiatives.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
• Two years of related experience.
• BLS Certification.
• Preferred: CST Certification.
• Preferred: Spine and total joint experience.

Responsibilities

• Prepare operating rooms by setting up surgical instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies according to procedure-specific requirements.
• Maintain strict aseptic technique throughout all surgical procedures.
• Assist surgeons during procedures by passing instruments, sutures, and supplies.
• Anticipate surgeon needs and respond promptly during surgery.
• Perform surgical counts (sponges, needles, instruments) in collaboration with nursing staff.
• Prepare and position patients for surgery, ensuring comfort, safety, and proper anatomical alignment.
• Handle, clean, decontaminate, and sterilize surgical instruments per regulatory and manufacturer standards.
• Monitor sterile field integrity and immediately correct contamination risks.
• Assist with the cleaning of the operating room.
• Comply with OSHA, Joint Commission, CMS, and infection prevention standards.
• Participate at in-service staff meetings.
• Participate in quality improvement, safety initiatives, and continuing education activities.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program
• Two (2) years of related experience
• BLS Certification

Preferred Qualifications:

• Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) Certification or equivalent credential
• Spine and total joint experience.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and position patients and equipment (up to 50 lbs)
• Prolonged standing, bending, and fine motor activity
• Exposure to bloodborne pathogens and surgical chemicals in accordance with OSHA Standards.
