Job summary

Barbour Orthopaedics is seeking a Surgical Technician to join our ASC Team in the Atlanta area. You will support safe, efficient operating room procedures, maintain sterile technique, and assist surgeons during surgeries to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Responsibilities include preparing ORs, instrument handling, patient positioning, counts, and adherence to regulatory standards. Two years of experience and a Surgical Technology program, plus BLS, are preferred.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
  • Two (2) years of related experience.
  • BLS Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare operating rooms by setting up surgical instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies according to procedure-specific requirements.
  • Maintain strict aseptic technique throughout all surgical procedures.
  • Assist surgeons during procedures by passing instruments, sutures, and supplies.
  • Anticipate surgeon needs and respond promptly during surgery.
  • Perform surgical counts in collaboration with nursing staff.
  • Prepare and position patients for surgery, ensuring comfort, safety, and proper anatomical alignment.
  • Handle, clean, decontaminate, and sterilize surgical instruments per regulatory and manufacturer standards.
  • Monitor sterile field integrity and immediately correct contamination risks.
  • Assist with the cleaning of the operating room.
  • Comply with OSHA, Joint Commission, CMS, and infection prevention standards.
  • Participate at in-service staff meetings.
  • Participate in quality improvement, safety initiatives, and continuing education activities.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent
Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program
Two (2) years of related experience

The Surgical Technician plays a critical role in supporting safe, efficient, and high-quality surgical procedures. Working under the direct supervision of Surgeons, Physicians, and Registered Nurses, this role ensures optimal operating room preparation, maintains sterile technique, and provides intraoperative support to deliver exceptional patient outcomes.

  • Monitor sterile field integrity and immediately correct contamination risks.
  • Assist with the cleaning of the operating room.

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program
  • Two (2) years of related experience
  • BLS Certification
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) Certification or equivalent credential
  • Spine and total joint experience.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and position patients and equipment (up to 50 lbs)
  • Prolonged standing, bending, and fine motor activity
  • Exposure to bloodborne pathogens and surgical chemicals in accordance with OSHA Standards.
