Job summary

Massachusetts General Hospital is seeking a Surgical Tech II for the Night Shift with the Trauma Team at 90 Blossom Street, Boston. Under supervision, you assist in operations, set up the OR, transport patients, pass instruments, and support surgeons.

Requires a High School Diploma, 2–3 years' acute-care experience (4 years preferred). CST preferred. Onsite role with competitive pay and benefits including pension, 403(b) match, MBTA pass, childcare resources, and retirement plans.

Qualifications

• Experience as a surgical technologist in an acute care setting (2–3 years) required.
• CST certification or NBSTSA certification preferred.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment and in a trauma team.

-Under supervision, assists in operations. May help set up the operating room, prepare and transport patients for surgery, adjust lights and equipment, pass instruments and other supplies to surgeons and surgeons' assistants, hold retractors, cut sutures, and help count sponges, needles, supplies, and instruments.

Essential Functions

• Participates in time-out procedures.


• Attainment of extra supplies and equipment as needed.


• Sets up equipment independently.


• Participates as an active member of the Patient Care Team.


• Monitor and continually assess operating room conditions, including patient and surgical team needs.


• Prepare patients for surgery, including positioning on the operating table and covering them with sterile surgical drapes to prevent exposure.


• Knowledge of SPD Sterile Room.


• Performs other duties as assigned


• Complies with all policies and standards.

Licenses and Credentials

Certified Surgical Technologist [CST] - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) - preferred

Work Experience

Experience as a surgical technologist in an acute care setting - 2-3 years - required

Four (4) years experience as a surgical technologist in an acute care setting; committee and leadership experience - 3-5 years -preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of SPD Sterile Room


• Ability to multitask, can work in a fast-paced clinical environment


• Advanced knowledge of sterile processing procedures and policies
  
• Familiarity with medical terminology and departmental supply items is required
