Job summary

Amberwell Health in Atchison, KS is seeking a Surgical Technologist to join the day shift in a full-time role. The technician will prepare the sterile field, anticipate needs during procedures, and assist with specimens, medications, dressings, and instrument sterilization.

Minimum high school education is required; preferred applicants have 12+ years in the field or related roles and may have completed an accredited Surgical Technician or Medical Assistant program.

Qualifications

• Preferred completion of accredited Surgical Technician or Medical Assistant program.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and organize the sterile field as required for various surgical procedures
• Anticipate surgeon and patient needs during a procedure
• Take care of specimens, prepare, check, and monitor medications on the sterile field, and assist with dressings
• Set up a sterile and sanitary environment, and maintain the sterile field for the patient during procedures
• Utilize correct body mechanics in moving, transporting, and positioning patients, stretchers, and/or tables in order to prevent injury
• Participate in orientation and education of all operating room staff on an ongoing basis
• Participate in stocking and restocking medical supplies
• Inspect, replace, and sterilize medical instruments

Job Description

Surgical technologists are also known as scrubs, scrub technicians, surgical technicians, and operating room technicians. Surgical technologists are part of the surgical team and work under the supervision of registered nurse and Director of Surgical Care. Surgical technologists assist surgeons during surgical procedures by anticipating surgeon needs to make sure the procedure is executed as smoothly and efficiently as possible. They prepare and organize the sterile field, maintain integrity of the sterile field, and are experts in surgical instruments and sterile equipment used during procedures. Surgical Technologist are responsible for cleaning and sterilizing all surgical instruments and equipment and has a working knowledge of the decontamination to sterilization process in the Central Sterilization Department.

Qualifications

Experience:

• Minimum Required Experience: Experience in the healthcare setting with knowledge of basic anatomy and medical terminology
• Preferred Experience: 12-year experience working as a surgical technologist or similar experience as a practical nurse, medical assistant, or an operating room assistant.

Education:

• Minimum Required Education: High school diploma or equivalent
• Preferred Education: Completion of an accredited Surgical Technician or Medical Assistant program

Licenses:

• Minimum Required Licenses: N/A
• Preferred Licenses: LPN, or Certified Surgical Technician

Certifications:

• Minimum Required: BLS
• Preferred Certifications: Certified Surgical Technician or Certified Medical Assistant
