Job summary

Sweetwater Care is seeking a Local or Travel Certified Surgical Technologist to assist surgeons and nurses in delivering safe patient care across diverse surgical settings. You will ensure sterile technique, organize the OR, and support the surgical team throughout procedures.

The role involves on-call hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed, with a focus on patient safety and high-quality outcomes.

Qualifications

• Must hold CST certification and be eligible to practice as a surgical technologist.
• Experience supporting surgeons and nurses in the operating room is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and organize the operating room for procedures, ensuring sterile equipment and supplies.
• Pass instruments, sponges, and sutures during surgery, maintaining a sterile field.
• Set up and operate surgical equipment under supervision of licensed professionals.
• Position patients for surgery and assist with draping and safety devices.
• Provide timely assistance to the surgical team to maintain smooth workflow.
• Assist with patient transport and positioning within the OR.
• Handle and dispose of specimens and biohazard materials per guidelines.
• Sterilize and maintain surgical instruments per quality standards.
• Be available for on-call shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Uphold ethics, standards of practice, and regulatory compliance.
• Demonstrate compassion, empathy, and respect for patients and families.

As a Local or Travel Certified Surgical Technologist, you will embark on an exciting journey, assisting surgeons and nurses in delivering safe and efficient patient care during surgical procedures. Your role will be essential in ensuring the success of surgical operations, patient safety, and positive clinical outcomes across diverse surgical settings.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and organize the operating room (OR) for surgical procedures, ensuring all necessary equipment, instruments, and supplies are available and sterile.
• Assist surgeons and nurses during surgical procedures by passing instruments, sponges, and sutures, maintaining a sterile field, and anticipating the needs of the surgical team.
• Set up and operate surgical equipment, such as lights, suction machines, and electrocautery devices, under the direction of licensed healthcare professionals.
• Prepare and position patients for surgery, including prepping the surgical site, draping, and securing patient safety devices, in accordance with established protocols.
• Anticipate and respond to the needs of surgeons and nurses during surgical procedures, providing timely assistance and ensuring smooth workflow in the OR.
• Assist with patient transportation, transfer, and positioning within the OR, maintaining patient comfort and safety throughout the surgical experience.
• Handle and dispose of surgical specimens and biohazardous materials appropriately, following infection control guidelines and regulatory requirements.
• Perform surgical instrument sterilization, disinfection, and maintenance procedures, ensuring compliance with standards of practice and quality assurance measures.
• Willingness to be on call to work variable shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed to meet surgical scheduling demands.
