St. Joseph's Health in Central New York invites applications for a Surgical Technologist Assistant internship. This part-time, rotating-shift program provides hands-on perioperative exposure, handling instrumentation and intraoperative support under CST supervision.

Be a current Surgical Technology student in good standing, with letters of recommendation and required program prerequisites. CPR/BLS certification and CST eligibility are expected, with eventual CST certification planned.

Qualifications

• Be a current Surgical Technology student in good standing and progressing toward completion of program.
• Initiation of the internship requires an application and a letter of recommendation from the Surgical Technology program director, clinical instructor, or the OR Department Educator stating good standing in an accredited program.
• Satisfactory program attendance is to be maintained to ensure continuance of internship.
• CPR/BLS certification; eligibility to become Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) and eventual CST certification.

Responsibilities

• Provides technical and clinical support to the perioperative team during a variety of surgical procedures.
• Acts as primary scrub, handling instrumentation, supplies and equipment.
• Anticipates surgeon and procedural needs and supports intraoperative care.
• Assist in room setup, case carts, decontamination and instrument processing.
• Learn the CDS layout and assist in selecting cases and supplies under CST supervision.
