Job summary

Florida Medical Clinic in Wesley Chapel, FL seeks a Surgical Tech III to support the OR team at our growing Wiregrass Ranch Hospital site. You will prepare sterile instruments and assist surgeons across multiple specialties. This role requires attention to sterile technique, device familiarity, and collaboration with RNs and physicians.

Day shift, full-time position in the Surgery department. Experience in a tertiary surgical setting is preferred; CST certification and BLS are required.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Completion of Surgical Technology training program or Orlando Health training program is required.
• Four (4) year surgical tech experience; CST with two years may substitute.
• Maintains current BLS/HealthCare Provider certification.

Responsibilities

• Maintain an orderly surgical field and pass instruments quickly to the surgeon.
• Anticipate and prioritize the needs during procedures.
• Participate in sponge, needle and instrument counts as required.
• Preserve and identify surgical specimens for pathology evaluation.
• Assist in stocking and ordering specialty supplies under guidelines.
• Collaborate with a RN as a technical subject matter expert for at least one specialty.
• Provide scrub services for major procedures in at least two specialties.
• Prepare and conduct training related to specialty service.
• Serve as a preceptor to perioperative personnel rotating through scrub roles.
• Collaborate with surgeons and address case needs in scrub or circulator roles.
• Assist workflow improvements and organizational effectiveness.
• Transport equipment and medications throughout the facility.

Job Summary

Demonstrates through clinical practice a clear understanding of sterile techniques and has a working knowledge of the specialized instrumentation and equipment required for a variety of specialty procedures. Demonstrates competency to operate all specialty instruments, supplies, and equipment to at least one tertiary specialty service.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for the maintenance of an orderly surgical field and for consistently passing instruments and supplies quickly and efficiently to the surgeon.
• Able to anticipate and prioritize the needs of the various steps associated with the procedure.
• Takes part in sponge, needle and instruments counts as dictated by the procedure.
• Responsible for maintaining the surgical specimen in a manner which identifies and preserves them for pathology evaluation.
• Assists in ordering and stocking of specialty supplies under the direction of management staff and departmental guidelines
• In collaboration with a Registered Nurse, serves as a technical subject matter expert for at least one tertiary specialty.
• Provides scrub services for major procedures in at least 2 surgical specialties (independently with high physician satisfaction).
• Prepares and conducts technical performance‑oriented training related to specialty service.
• Serves as a preceptor to perioperative personnel rotating through the scrub roles associated with their primary specialty(s) and/or second circulates on major tertiary procedures.
• Collaborates with surgeons and proactively addresses case needs when performing duties in either the scrub or second circulator roles.
• In collaboration with the clinical leadership, assists in workflow process improvement activities, contributes to organizational effectiveness, and demonstrates career growth and development.
• Transports and delivers items, equipment, and medications (excluding controlled substances and IV chemotherapy drugs) throughout the facility.
• May have limited access to areas storing medications.
• Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
• Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
• When directed by clinical specialist, inventories and orders specialty instruments, supplies unique to specialty.
• Participates in the clinical orientation of SPD staff, serving as a role model and technical resource.
• Dependable and reliable in performance of Surgical Tech I and II duties.
• Performs all tasks in a manner that is cost effective participate in departmental performance improvement activities, meets education and certification requirements, upholds Orlando Health philosophy and objectives, contributes to organizational effectiveness, and demonstrates career growth and development.

  • Surgical Technology training program; or Orlando Health training program.
