Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification.
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology or Nursing Program; or Military Training in Surgical Technology; or 5+ years experience.

Responsibilities

• Performs technical skill duties in all operating room areas, ensuring proper practices.
• Maintains, assembly, handling, and sterilization of specialty instrumentation.
• Follows aseptic technique and addresses contamination or breaks in aseptic technique.
• Performs surgical counts and reports discrepancies.
• Maintains sterile field and labels drugs and solutions; monitors quantities.
• Assists in preparation and labeling of surgical specimens.
• Plans instrument setup and supplies for procedures.
• Assists the surgeon with anatomy and procedural planning.
• Preps cases and plans instrument needs; corrects deficiencies.
• Adapts scrubbing procedures and responds to emergencies.
• Inventory, receipt, and storage of supplies under leadership.
• Mentors new hires and participates in orientation and evaluations.
• Identifies defective instruments and restocks rooms.
• Assists RN during intraoperative nursing activities.
• Participates in data collection for research projects.
