Job summary

Northeast Georgia Health System is seeking a Surgical Tech First Assistant to aid in exposure, hemostasis, wound closure, and intraoperative functions under surgeon supervision.

The role supports pediatric through geriatric patients, requires CST certification with first assist training, and preferred experience includes three years as a Surgical Tech and one year as a First Assistant at NGHS.

Qualifications

• Certified Surgical Technologist with first assist program completion.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Three years Surgical Tech experience, one year First Assist experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assists with positioning, prepping and draping.
• Provides hemostasis by clamping vessels and coagulating bleeding points as directed by the surgeon.
• Provides exposure through retractors, instruments, suction, and sponging techniques.
• Accurately prepares specimens and communicates with the nursing staff.
• Handles tissue as directed by the surgeon.
• Sutures fascia, subcutaneous tissue, and skin as directed by the surgeon.
• Place and suture drains as directed by the surgeon.
• Assist circulating nurse within scope of role and under RN direction.
• Apply surgical dressings and maintain aseptic technique.
