Job summary

Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital seeks a Surgical First Assistant to function as a first assistant during operative and invasive procedures, assist the OR team, and prepare sterile instruments, supplies, and equipment while maintaining a sterile field.

Applicants must graduate from a surgical technologist program, hold CST and BLS certifications, and have at least three years of perioperative experience. CSA/CSFA/SA-C or equivalent certifications are preferred.

Qualifications

• Graduate from a surgical technologist program.
• Completion of didactic and clinical components of the First Assistant program or competency verified by sponsoring Piedmont surgeon during the orientation period.
• Minimum three years perioperative services experience.
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Certified surgical assistant (CSA), Certified surgical first assistant (CSFA), Surgical assistant certificated (SA-C) or equivalent preferred

Responsibilities

• Functions as a first assistant during operative and other invasive procedures in accordance with credentials, privileges, experience, education and competency verification.
• Assists OR staff in the assigned room/case.
• Prepares and provides the required sterile instruments, supplies and equipment in the role of scrub tech.
• Maintains the sterile field and anticipates and responds to the needs of the surgical team.

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:Graduate from a surgical technologist program. Requires completion of didactic and clinical components of the First Assistant program or competency verified by a sponsoring Piedmont surgeon during the orientation period.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:Three years perioperative services experience.

MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW:Certified surgical technologist (CST). Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
