Saint Joseph Health System in Mishawaka, IN, is hiring a full-time Surgical Assistant. The role involves preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative support under surgeon guidance.

The candidate will serve as CSFA/CSA as required by caseload and uphold the organization’s mission and patient safety standards. The position requires graduation from an accredited surgical assisting program with CSFA/CSA/SA-C certifications and at least 2 years in the OR.

Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited surgical assisting program.
• CSFA, CSA, or SA-C certification required.
• 2 years in operating room as a surgical technologist or current certification.

Responsibilities

• Actively demonstrates the organization’s mission and core values at all times.
• Serve as CSFA/CSA as needed depending on caseload.
• Adheres to laws and regulations on patient health, safety, and medical information.
• Preoperative: assist positioning, prep, catheter and tourniquet tasks as needed.
• Intraoperative: assist incision, exposure, hemostasis, tissue handling.
• Postoperative: apply dressings and assist in recovery per surgeon direction.
• Specialty procedures under supervision, including graft-related tasks as applicable.
• Evaluate patient response to care and outcomes.
• Apply knowledge of asepsis, wound healing, and surgical physiology.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
